This week we decided to write one article because, like so many around the world, we speak with one voice. We feel helpless in the face of something we cannot control yet we want to do something, anything. So, we are reduced to watching events unfold on TV… but this doesn’t feel like another television war.
After watching so much, we become depressed. And that feeling of helplessness never disappears.
We are filled with admiration at the unbelievable courage shown by the people of Ukraine, and hold so much respect for the incredible kindness and empathy shown by so many in looking after refugees that have managed to cross the borders.
Conversely, we feel nothing but contempt and rage for the perpetrator. One vile, evil, repulsive excuse of a man.
Yes, Vladimir Putin made it to the history books; he is the only Russian ruler who invaded its sister-country, Ukraine, and destroyed it. Making, consequently, his own country an international pariah.
Historically, we can only compare it with the Tatar-Mongolian invasion of the 13th century that devastated Russian towns from Kiev in the south west to Vladimir in the north east. Yes, it was a cruel Mongolian ruler Batu Khan who destroyed Kiev in 1240…

About this week’s featured Image
The text is the first line of the Ukrainian National Anthem. The words were written in 1862 and translate as:
“Ukraine hasn’t died yet,
And its glory, and it’s will…”
The man in the picture is named Андрей/Andrey and he is an officer in the Ukrainian Army. His mother is a reader of these pages and is worried, proud, feels helpless and terrified, all at the same time.
Andrey is risking his life to defend his country in Mariupol (we think). This once beautiful port city has been pounded by Russian artillery and survives without water, electricity, or food.
From time to time, he is able to send a text message or even a short video to his mother who gushes: “Yes, HE IS MY PRIDE!!!!” This image of Andrey is from one of these messages.
Andrey and his men are a source of inspiration to us…
