Five and a half years ago, in only our second-ever blog, we discussed gun laws in our countries, following the Las Vegas Massacre. We now ask what has changed in those intervening years, and how, or if, we would re-write the blog so as to be relevant today……

Second Amendment

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Yep, that’s everything. As you can see, the Second Amendment is poorly worded and that has opened it to controversy. As the Founding Fathers wrote these documents, they kept a running commentary of their thoughts and discussions. Never mind the awkward words above, we know exactly what these men were thinking and the N.R.A. knows their pro-gun propaganda is is total bullshit too. Thats why they never even mention the Federalist Papers .

Let me enlighten you as to how little the Government in Tennessee cares:

  • It’s a law that you can carry a gun into a bar. Think about that: guns and alcohol.
  • The University of Tennessee had a rule saying no guns on campus. The Government passed a law over-ruling the school. Hey, no students ever got killed in school; right?
  • A few years back, the State became really angry with the National Park Service because they said no guns in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The State of Tennessee couldn’t over-ride the Feds.

I will end with my closing from last time:

“Let us join them in sending our hollow prayers to the grieving.

Not only will we forget you, we will make it easier for the next killer.

Amen.”

Gun massacres – what has changed?

Roger Bara

Absolutely zilch in the U.K. has changed. It doesn’t need to because guess what?  We don’t have gun massacres, as our gun laws are extremely robust.

I would just remove six words from my blog – “and that chump of a president” –  every other word, sentence and paragraph remains as valid today as it was all those years ago.

Which is pretty damn sad.

An American tragedy: no way out, REVISITED

Our Rusuk Blog writer Sergey

Here’s what I wrote back in October 2017:

This blog would be short. What happened in Las Vegas is terrible but it was just a question of time. Another jerk, or a psycho, with an automatic rifle, another crowd of people, this time at the Route 91 Harvest country music fest. The only difference is the all time high death toll: 59 killed, more than 500 injured.
The discussion about automatic rifles ban is fruitless. It is a stalemate and, I think, there will be no ban. Period.
So many guns are already out there that even a total ban (which is a utopia) will not solve this problem.
All I know is that, thanks God, in Russia you can’t buy a gun and for a good reason: I am sure half of the country would be dead in 24 hours as the public tensions and criminal rate both are very high.
As to what happened in Las Vegas: the real drama, real tragedy is that the country is divided and no solution seen on the horizon. The automatic guns sale must be stopped. It will not happen. No way out. Sad.

This is what I would add to my blog from years ago: nothing has changed. There was no – and won’t be – automatic rifle bans; more psycho shooters to come. Nothing is changing under the sun. Done.

P.S. One minor comment: since 2017 Russia has experienced several shootings with guns, not automatic rifles though. So, we made some progress and become one step closer to America.
