Lies told

Russia’s biggest lie

Our Rusuk Blog writer Sergey

Every country in the world has its mythology, and it is often a mix of truth and imagination. In most cases, mythology is a symbolic vehicle that goes down the generations to keep the initial message. For example, the primary Shinto myth about the Sun Goddess Amaterasu hiding in the cave, and thus producing darkness all over the land, is believed. Again, some experts and historians argue this is a symbolic and poetic story of the last Ice Age conditions when the volcanism caused lots of dust that covered the sun.

But here we talk about the mythology based on lies as a tool to control people. I call it bad mythology.

And the biggest lie about Russia is the story of patriotism. Currently, to be a patriot means to be a current regime’s fierce supporter. I mean, if I am a patriot in Russia, I support Putin, I support the war in Ukraine, and I believe that Ukraine is a failed state and a part of Russia anyway. I also hate so-called ‘LGBT propaganda,’ I hate the West, I think Russia is spiritual and the West is soulless, and so on.

Pitin rides a bear

The biggest thing is that even their opponents widely use these terms, ‘patriot’ or ‘patriotic.’

May I have your attention, please: why the hell the word ‘patriot’ is used in this case at all??

A patriot is a person who loves his or her country, NOT the government. I understand that the word comes from the Latin word ‘patrio,’ or Motherland. It says nothing, initially, about hating America and Ukraine, supporting Putin, or the Russian government in general.

This trick works perfectly now: if you don’t support the president, you’re not a patriot; you don’t support your country. In fact, you’re a traitor. The government, in this case, becomes identical to the country.

Which is, of course, far away from what the word ‘patriotism’ really means.

Until this biggest lie, set up by the current regime, is debunked, nothing good will happen in Russia. The Russian people continue to sleep in their timeless dreams. The country continues to sink deeper into the dust of fascism as ‘patriots’ continue to rule it.

Britain’s biggest lie

Roger Bara

Two come to mind immediately. One from when I was a young teenager, and one absolute whopper that happened after I had retired.

In 1967, my country of birth suffered a balance of payments crisis. But supporting the pound was fast becoming unaffordable, and so in November of that year, the pound was devalued by some 14.3%.

It was a personal defeat for Prime Minister Harold Wilson. But on 19 November, he went on radio and television, and I remember watching the broadcast with my mum and dad, who were Polish immigrants who arrived in Britain in 1945, to reassure us poor consumers that devaluation “does not mean, of course, that the pound here in Britain, in your pocket or purse, or in your bank, has been devalued”.

It does not take an honours degree in economics to know, and I was a mere 14 at the time, that this was absolute bollocks – the pound is the pound, and if it is your pocket, it will adversely affect you, and prices will sky-rocket. And they did. And it detrimentally affected my parent’s standard of living, along with millions of others.

Then, just a few years ago, we had a certain totally inept human being called Boris Johnson determined to lead Britain out of the European Union at all costs. This was a few years before he lied himself into oblivion, disgracing himself and his country after he became, arguably, the worst Prime Minister in history. (And there are many candidates, most of them recent!!)

Brexit motor coach

The crux of the crusade to get Britain out of Europe was a modern campaign coach being decorated with the words: “we send the European Union £350m a week” and the money could be used to “fund our NHS instead”.

It was not only totally misleading, but an outright lie. The result was a gullible British public believing this bullshit and narrowly voting to leave the EU and guaranteeing economic ruin.

The biggest lie of the two above has got be Brexit. Luckily, I had long since departed the U.K. when Boris started his mendacious regime . But his lies, and Brexit was just one, will adversely affect his country, and its inhabitants, for decades to come.

The biggest lie America ever told

In my country we don’t have to look back very far at all. But I want to anyway in order to add a little perspective to just how far America has fallen. During the Cold War, the two major powers spied on each other. In 1960, the Soviets shot down an American U2 spy plane and captured the pilot.

Obviously, this caused a stir on both sides of the Atlantic. During this time the President of The United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower, wasn’t allowed to appear before the press. Why? Why did the White House decide to hide the President? Because somebody was going to have to tell a lie and there is no way that could be a President. No President could lie – the end.

The Donald

Flash forward to today and a lie damn near destroyed the country. The big lie: Donald Trump won the 2020 election. He did not according to sixty-three courts, some run by Trump appointed Judges. Trump lost and most cases were simply thrown out before even going to trial due to lack of evidence.

What makes the lie so poisonous was that Trump would not, and will not, admit he lost the election. This lie directly resulted in a Police Officer being murdered by having a fire extinguisher shoved through his skull. The first of five to die. Even now, today, that lie continues to send convulsions through the legal system. As of this writing, Trump has now been indicted on nearly 80 felony counts.

Republicans lie and pretend they don’t know who won the election. Donald J. Trump, “Your Law & Order President” (his words) lies and Congresswoman Marjory Taylor Green says he’s just like Jesus: “‘Trump is joining some of the most incredible people in history being arrested today,’ she said during an interview with Right Side Broadcasting in New York. ‘Nelson Mandela was arrested, served time in prison. Jesus — Jesus was arrested and murdered by the Roman government.’”

Question: how many felonies was Jesus brought up on? How many times was he found guilty of slandering a woman he raped? I’m guessing nobody ever defended Jesus by saying “That’s just locker room talk.”

So go ahead, vote for him again. Help him win. It will be the last real vote you ever cast.
