Lies, lies and even more lies – Quelle Surprise…..

Roger Bara

This story would overtake Trump’s antics and the tragedy continuing in Ukraine all day long.

Regular readers will know that I despise Boris Johnson and his horrible party of Conservatives. They have done little but lie, and lie some more to get to their objectives; basically, to stay in power.

Or in the case of Boris, to protect his huge arse. But at last, at long, long last, he’s been found out for what he is. A fat, vindictive lying piece of absolute excrement that has disgraced the British political scene, even by the Tory’s unimaginably depleted standards.

In just a few words, this is what has happened in Britain this week. A rogue prime minister has been found guilty of lying to parliament, by a committee containing a majority of his own party. This inquiry found that Johnson had deliberately misled Parliament over six parties that took place during the pandemic lockdown.

Boris' Johnson

The committee also found that he had deliberately misled MPs on the Privileges Committee while they were investigating him; that he referred to the committee’s findings before they were published, in his resignation statement last week; and that he had “impugned the committee” in his criticism of it, being complicit in a “campaign of abuse” against its members.

The committee has also recommended that the plump playboy should be stripped of the pass given to former MPs allowing them access to Parliament.

Note that the coward jumped before he would have been pushed. And before he jumped, he awarded peerages to loads of his contemptible cronies.

Finally, this report makes it oh-so clear that all these honours should be undone. Think about how utterly absurd it would be that a man not even entitled to a pass should be sending those donors, and Partygate cover-uppers, to spend their lives as part of the legislature of the country.

No Ukraine, no Trump… then what?

Our Rusuk Blog writer Sergey

I would add Putin to this list, too. Vlad is obviously my favourite in RUSUK, and he will be until he steps aside or goes for an Eternal Hunt in the Upper Lands.

Then what? I would go for AI – Artificial Intelligence.

AI is a part of the technological progress that is natural to happen as our civilization evolves, just like telephones, computers, or the internet, in the past. This is a paradigm shift if you want.

However, there’s been lots of noise in the media regarding this issue as there is plenty of Sci-Fi stuff about some super intelligence controlling everything and ruling the world in the future.

Now, every tech luminary has to say something about it. Bill Gates claims that we have to be on alert today to escape bigger problems tomorrow.

Robot

Recently, I was checking Elon Musk’s ideas on AI. In April, he tweeted: ‘We need to be super careful with AI. Potentially more dangerous than nukes.’

The biggest question is: is AI good or evil? Musk has joined the discussion after Marc Andreessen, a legendary investor and co-founder of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, said on Twitter:

“AI will not destroy the world, and in fact, may save it. A shorter description of what AI isn’t: Killer software and robots that will spring to life and decide to murder the human race or otherwise ruin everything, as you see in the movies.”

Musk actively joined the discussion, saying the opposite and signing a petition to freeze any meaningful AI projects for half a year. As he is developing his own AI project, TruthGPT, it could be in his business interest to hold off the competition. Though this could just be my imagination, it is hard to catch up with Elon’s mind.

The media hype around AI is well underway – and this will eventually overshadow the Ukraine war, Trump, and even… Putin.

This Should Not Be News

This week we are supposed to write about something that’s a bit outside main news stories. Perhaps I should start out on a personal note: I was born on a US Army base and as a child, I got to travel all over. This is both good and bad but that’s another blog.

One place I spent a couple of years was Fort Polk, LA, USA. This was my early, pre-school years. I remember my father taking me out to a target range where there were some tanks I could climb over, and in. Very cool and I’m sure, strictly off limits now; seeing how unexploded ordnance is a big no-no and all. Different times.

They also had a drive-In theater and the back side of the screen was covered in roofing shingles at a steep angle. The profile was a steep triangle and you could climb up the back of the screen. I’m sure that’s something else that would result in a word with the MPs now.

Other things about Fort Polk have changed too, like the name. The place was was previously named after Confederate commander Lt. Gen. Leonidas Polk. Even to a small child, that seemed bizarre. Why would you name an Army Base after some guy who wanted to kill your solders? I’m going to guess here that there is no Fort Prince Rupprecht, in France. His men killed thousands of French soldiers at Lorraine.

So my childhood Fort Polk is now named Fort Johnson. It honors Sgt. William Henry Johnson, a Black US soldier during World War I who fought off about two dozen Germans alone, killing at least four. Later he received, posthumously, the Medal of Honor.

That’s not the part that’s getting the news; predictably, Donald Trump is angry, still. He thinks naming US Bases in honor of people who tried to kill US Solders is good. Ron DeSantis wants to change the names back if he gets into office. Clearly, I’m missing something here. So, why not Airbase Mussolini or Port Hitler? And before you give me some crap about dynamic American leaders, may I quote from a News Article on Fort Bragg? “Gen. Braxton Bragg was an unpopular Confederate general who garnered a lot of criticism for his often subpar performance on the field, accompanied by a hot temper and combative personality.”

Of course, the real truth is you don’t give a shit about them Democrat darkies and want to keep your racists followers happy. Oh, sorry, did I say the truth out loud?
