Gaza City after a bombing raid
Roger Bara

Both my co-writer Dean and I live in a country that has had genocide attempted against its citizens in our lifetime. We live in Cyprus, which, in the 1950s and 1960s, saw Greeks and Greek Cypriots attempt to annihilate the Turkish Cypriot community and almost succeed. We are both very sensitive to this type of aggression.

At long last, the British government, just this week, finally agreed that Israel’s actions against the Palestinians in Gaza was a bit “over the top”. Months too late but at least a reaction in line with common decency.

Street in Gaza City

Let me readily admit that the actions of Hamas nineteen months ago were indefensible. Plus, a terrorist attack on your nearest neighbours was never going to lead to anything other than retaliation. What a shame this organisation was running Palestine. Its people simply didn’t deserve what was to happen.

But Israel’s reaction to try and annihilate the entire Palestinian population is also indefensible, and unbelievably, until this very week, they were getting away with attempted genocide. Every hospital and every school that they targeted, and demolished, killing thousands of innocent children and civilians, were answerable by saying that there were suspected Hamas members amongst them. Absolute bullshit. Then Israel insisted on an eleven-week total blockade of aid to the starving Palestinian population, which humanitarian groups insist is causing widespread famine.

But the world, including Britain, simply looked away. And so it continued. Until this week. Both France and Canada agreed with Britain that Israel’s actions in Gaza were becoming unacceptable. Late, but welcome. Israel’s response?  The three country’s leaders, Sir Keith Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Mark Carney, were accused of siding with “mass murderers, rapists, and baby killers”. Which perfectly describes what Israel continues to inflict on Gaza.

What I think (and Russia) of HAMAS

Our Rusuk Blog writer Sergey

I think that HAMAS is the essence of something what is called fascism. They don’t need peace, their only goal is to destroy Israel. They fool their own people. They get funds from stupid Europe, they rob their own people. They establish their military targets in civilian spots, like hospitals. They know what they are doing; Israel would hit the targets.

But the real killers of Arabian people are HAMAS.

Israel doesn’t want to destroy any Arabian entity, including Palestine.

To me, it is 100% clear.

One side wants to destroy another side. The other side wants to kill all Jews and destroy the state of Israel. The story began in 1948, it is still alive today. To me, it looks very much like Putin doesn’t see that Ukraine is an independent country…

If I were a Jew, I would  fight for my life and the lives of my family. I mean, in this case, we are not guilty that we’re Jews, we just want to live.

Chrystal clear.

God bless Israel!

Leaders of Gaza, Russia, Ukraine, and Israel

P.S.

Putin is a corrupt cynic. He doesn’t care about Israel or Palestine. He uses the conflict in his interest, which, I suppose, doesn’t really correlate with Russia’s true national interest. From my personal experience, people in Russia like Israel and respect the country. They look at Arabs like they are….

Is this Genocide?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says all of Gaza will be under IDF (Israeli Army) control shortly. Between this, settler activity in the West Bank, and additional occupation in the Golan Heights, it is difficult to escape the idea that Netanyahu has imperialists designs on surrounding lands.

This is far from the right of self-defense the world supported after Hamas murdered so may innocents. In fact, the UN now says about 80% of all casualties in Gaza are women and children. Each time the IDF has the exact same excuse: there was a high-level Hamas terrorists at that location and these poor folks just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Bullshit. The Israeli Army is no joke, these solders are among the world’s finest and to say they can’t shoot straight or can’t tell a MAM (military aged male) from a grandma is not even a good lie.

The American people are predictably divided on the entire affair. As you already expect, it falls along political lines. Are you MAGA? Kill em’ all! They may well get their wish. Netanyahu has cut of all food and water to the over-two million people living there. Some conservative American Senators are now telling the Prime Minister that if there is starvation in the strip, they will no longer support Israel. Other nations are already cutting support. Anytime you disagree with Netanyahu he trots out the same putrid, racist crap: you’re anti-semitic!

Trump Gaza video stills

Microsoft has disabled the ICC Chief prosecutors email account. The International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan was placed under U.S. sanctions by the Trump administration in February 2025, as part of an effort to coerce the court into halting investigations of Israeli abuses in Gaza. His UK bank accounts are frozen. Additionally, all 900 ICC staff members have been banned from entering the United States, accused of pursuing “illegitimate” investigations into alleged war crimes committed by Israel.

The U.S. government has threatened that any individual or organization providing Khan with financial, material, or technological assistance could face fines or imprisonment.

To be fair, the President is starting to distance himself from Bibi. This has opened the way for former US Allies in Europe to cut ties with Israel. Mr. Trump should act with care (he won’t); if there is man-made famine in Gaza the ICC may also add him to the list of war criminals wanted in The Hague. For most Americans, this would be a shocking fall from what was once moral high ground. For Trump, it would just another random weekday morning.
